Do you have a teen who loves to cook? My 13 year old (now considered "a man" in Jewish tradition) loves to cook! He loves working with recipes and adding his spin to various holiday dishes. One of his favorite dishes to make during Passover is Matzoh Brei!
The word Brei comes from the German word meaning "fried." Saying you are going to make "fried matzoh" simply doesn't sound as appetizing as saying you are making Matzoh Brei! It is also a dish usually made after the first two days of the holiday.
Here is Seth's take on traditional matzoh brei:
Ingredients:
2 eggs
2-3 pieces of matzoh
Butter
*Maple syrup*
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
*Use a cast iron pan if you have one, or a ceramic non-stick works best.
Heat your pan with butter until just melted
Crack the eggs right into a pan which is big enough for Matzah
Break the matzah into smaller pieces and coat it with the eggs until blended
Once that is done, add just a little maple syrup for sweetness. You can use as much as you want to add natural sweetness.
Cook it together until you see the eggs and matzoh blend and you start to see some browning.
You can make it scrambled style or like a large pancake! I prefer the scrambled style as you are likely to get more servings out of the recipe that way.
The recipe should yield approximately 3-5 servings
Adding a little salt and pepper to the recipe will give a great balance of savory to sweet of the maple syrup!
Happy Passover!
